News: Amazon giving away free movies

Amazon.com‘s Movies & TV division is offering free stuff in two promotions, timed to the Academy Awards and the launch of science-fiction film Battle: Los Angeles in theaters.

Through March 6, Amazon is asking people to “Like” it on Facebook for a chance to win 10 Oscar nominees for Best Picture on DVD. The prize movies are NOT this year’s Best Picture nominees, some of which have yet to be scheduled for DVD release (although we’re guessing that after the statues are handed out, we’re going to get a lot of announcements). Instead, Amazon is giving away the 10 Best Picture nominees from 2009-2010. These are the films:

Avatar

The Blind Side

District 9

An Education

The Hurt Locker (winner)

Inglourious Basterds

Precious

A Serious Man

For its second promotion, Amazon is giving away a movie ticket or concession reward for Battle: Los Angeles, redeemable between March 11 and June 1 at participating theaters.

By March 18, buy one of 24 movies from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment on Blu-ray (listed below) from Amazon’s promotional page, and after the disc has shipped, you’ll get an email from Amazon with a code. Plug that code into the Battle: Los Angeles rewards website, and you’ll be able to print your certificate.

The Blu-ray titles available for purchase in the Battle: Los Angeles promotion include all the movies in Sony’s Blu-ray Essentials Collection, released last November: Air Force One, Bad Boys, Black Hawk Down, Casino Royale, Da Vinci Code, The Fifth Element, Ghost Rider, Hancock, Snatch, Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3.

Also in the promotion are:

2012

Close Encounters of the Third Kind

District 9

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete

Gattaca

Ghostbusters

Legion

Men in Black

The Patriot

Resident Evil

Starship Troopers

The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 (2009 version)

NOTE: You might have to provide contact information, such as email and phone number for either or both of these promotions.
