New Release: Exorcismus DVD

Exorcismus movie scene

Priest are called in to drive the evil spirits from Sophie Vavasseur in Exorcismus.

Exorcismus, the devilish 2010 Spanish horror film, came to DVD from IFC on June 7, 2011.

Demonic possession films are the happening horror subject of late, with The Last Exorcism and The Rite.

Directed by Manuel Carballo and entitled The Possession of Emma Evans in its native country, the movie tells of secluded, home-schooled teenager Emma (Sophie Vavasseur) whose uncontrolled behavior causes her to believe she is possessed by the devil. When terrible things start to happen to Emma’s friends and family, her parents grudgingly call in the help of her uncle (Stephen Billington), a priest who attempts to drive out the evil spirits with an exorcism

There’s generally solid buzz in the horror community about Exorcismus, which received a theatrical release in Spain, Portugal and the Far East, but premiered on DVD in the U.S. And it’s worth noting that screenwriter David Muñoz was also the writer of Guillermo del Toro’s excellent 2001 ghost movie The Devil’s Backbone.

No bonus features are on the DVD, which is presented in Spanish with English subtitles and carries a list price of $24.98.
