Ashes movie scene

An experimental drug injected into a young boy causes the outbreak of a deadly virus in Ashes.

A renowned doctor’s misguided cure for AIDS may instead wipe out mankind after it creates a zombie epidemic in the 2010 independent science-fiction horror film Ashes.

The first movie directed and co-written by Elias Matar, Ashes follows the brilliant and obsessive Dr. Andrew Stanton (Brian Krause, TV’s Charmed),who’s on the verge of a major breakthrough in his exhaustive research on a cure for AIDS.

When Jesus (Gabriel Matar), a comatose young boy suffering from an undiagnosed illness is left at his hospital’s front door, Stanton elects to inject the boy with an experimental drug in hopes of gaining more time to pursue a final diagnosis. Total chaos ensues as Stanton is bitten by the boy, signaling the outbreak of a contagious and deadly virus that deteriorates its victims’ bodies while enraging their minds. Stanton must now stop the infection before it destroys him … everyone else.

Having picked up awards at a number of genre film festivals, including Shriekfest, the Chicago Horror Film Festival and the International Horror & SciFi Film Festival, Ashes‘ commercial debut in the U.S. is on DVD.

  • “Premiere at Shriekfest”
