A festival favorite, the colorful comedy-drama Creedmoria, a coming-of-age girl power throwback flick set in 1980s Queens, marks the debut feature film of Brooklyn-based writer/director Alicia Slimmer.

Sweet as candy: Stef Dawson stars in Creedmoria.

In the film, Candy (Stef Dawson) is always trying to  inject some “fun” in her dysfunctional life. From the looks of it, Candy could use the levity: she has a brother who was found by a neighbor naked and drunk, a caveman of a boyfriend, a dickhead boss, and a mother’s who needs to appear “normal.” But maybe  “normalcy” is just a construct for other people and after spending years trying to save those she loves, maybe it’s time for Candy to save herself.

Creedmoria has won a slew of film festival awards, including the Jury Award for Best Feature Comedy at Cinequest, Audience Favorite at the Brooklyn Film Festival and Best Director at the Manchester Film Festival, to name a few.

Well-reviewed by The Hollywood Reporter and The Village Voice (which described it as “a timeless lark: a rollicking, touching family yarn…”), the film also features Rachel DeBenedet, Ray Abruzzo, Ryan Weldon and James Kelley in its cast.
