With the drama-comedy Godard Mon Amour, filmmaker Michel Hazanavicius, the Academy Award-winning director of The Artist, takes on the true story of the legendary Jean-Luc Godard at a turning in both is own groundbreaking career and in the art of cinema.
Hazanavicius, once again affectionately transports moviegoers back to a unique time and place in cinematic history: France, in the late 1960s. Actress Anne Wiazemsky (Stacy Martin) finds herself juggling political protests and artistic challenges in her married life with renowned filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard (Louis Garrel, Making Plans for Lena). As her country undergoes enormous cultural change, so too does Anne’s dynamic with her husband.
Though it was well-received in its native France, receiving nominations for the Palme d’Or at Cannes along with four Cesar nods, Godard Mon Amour arrived to a not-to-hot reception upon its limited theatrical release April, 2018, scoring a lukewarm 56% rating at reviews aggregator Rotten Tomatoes and ringing up only $80,000-plus at the domestic box office.
That said, the pedigree is there and maybe the featurette will provide some kind of explanation as to what went wrong!
