New Release: The Sound of Music 45th Anniversary Blu-ray/DVD

The Sound of Music movie scene20th Century Fox Home Entertainment celebrated the 45th birthday of the classic Julie Andrews musical The Sound of Music with a Limited Edition Collection and three-disc Blu-ray/DVD combo pack on Nov. 2, 2010.

As well as two Blu-ray discs and a DVD, the individually numbered The Sound of Music 45th Anniversary Limited Edition Collection is packaged in a collectible box and contains a 100-page “My Favorite Things” scrapbook, a soundtrack, a reproduction of the original 1965 souvenir program and an exclusive hand-painted “My Favorite Things” music box, all priced at $89.99.

The Blu-ray/DVD combo pack is priced at $34.99.

As well as the remastered film in 1080p and 7.1 DTS-HD sound, the two Blu-ray discs in both options include these special features:

  • “Your Favorite Things: An Interactive Celebration” immersive viewing experience with behind-the-scenes images, on-screen lyrics, trivia track and location quiz
  • Music Machine Sing-Along
  • audio commentaries with Andrews, Christopher Plummer and director Robert Wise
  • “Musical Stages: Creating The Sound of Music” interactive backlot tour with featurettes on the songs, stage show, movie, film and sound restoration and the real life Von Trapp family
  • “A City of Song” virtual map of filming locations in Salzburg, Austria
  • vintage Rodgers & Hammerstein and The Sound of Music programs
  • screen tests, interviews, photos galleries and BD-Live Internet access.

The DVD in the sets contain the remastered film in standard definition, plus:

  • optional sing-along track
  • Music Machine Sing-Along
  • and “The Sound of Music Tour — A Living Story.”

The G-rated movie won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, and was nominated for five more.
