New Release: Futurama Volume 5 DVD and Blu-ray

Futurama TV show sceneAnimated TV show Futurama, from Simpsons creator Matt Groening, arrived on disc on Dec. 21, 2010, in a Futurama: Volume 5 set from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. For the first time, Futurama‘s episodes were released on Blu-ray as well as DVD (previously only Futurama movies such as Bender’s Game were available on high-definition Blu-ray).

Futurama: Volume 5 includes 13 episodes of the comedy that tackle such space age subjects as evolution, mind exchange, feline intelligence and robosexual marriage. Among the actors who lend their voices to the show are Coolio (Daredevil), Chris Elliott (TV’s Everybody Loves Raymond), talk show host Craig Ferguson, former Vice President Al Gore and George Takei (Heroes, Star Trek).

Both the two-DVD and two-disc Blu-ray sets contain these special features:

  • deleted and extended scenes
  • audio commentaries
  • and featurettes “Bend It Like Bender,” “Previously On….” “Fry’s Crudely Drawn Comic Book — The Crudely Animated Edition” and “Behind the Fungus: Makin’ a Hit Song.”

The DVD was priced at $39.98 and Blu-ray at $49.99.
