New Release: True Blood Season 3 DVD and Blu-ray

True Blood Season 3 sceneAcclaimed vampire TV show True Blood is returning to DVD and Blu-ray on May 31 with the debut of season three from HBO Home Entertainment and Warner Home Video.

Based on the Sookie Stackhouse series of novels by Charlaine Harris, True Blood is still going strong in its third season on television. Season four is scheduled to premiere on HBO in June. The show won an Emmy Award in 2009 for outstanding casting for a drama and won a Golden Globe the same year for star Anna Paquin’s (Almost Famous) performance as Sookie Stackhouse.

As well as vampires, the series features werewolves and shapeshifters. In season 3, Sookie heads to Mississippi to find Bill (Stephen Moyer, TV’s The Starter Wife), who has been kidnapped, and gets entangled in a world ruled by a powerful Vampire King and the werewolves who do his bidding.

The True Blood: The Complete Third Season DVD ($59.99) and Blu-ray ($79.98) will contain all 12 episodes of the season, plus these special features:

  • “Anatomy of a Scene,” about the werewolf fight at the beginning of the season
  • True Blood Post Mortems,” end of season guides
  • Snoop Dogg’s tribute music video “Oh Sookie”
  • seven audio commentaries with cast and crew, including show creator Alan Ball (American Beauty), Paquin, Moyer and fellow actors Alexander Skarsgard (TV’s Generation Kill), Joe Manganiello (TV’s One Tree Hill) and Denis O’Hare (TV’s The Good Wife).

The Blu-ray will have all those extras, plus:

  • enhanced viewing with picture-in-picture content that extends the fiction of the show, including character perspectives, flashbacks and flashforwards to relive pivotal moments in the series and reveal the significance of a scene, vampire histories, character bios, trivia
  • and “True Blood Lines,” an on-screen guide that highlights the connections between the worlds in the series.
