It's woman versus Great White Shark in The Reef.

Image Entertainment released the shark-infested thriller The Reef on Blu-ray and DVD on July 19, 2011, — and it’s based on a true story.

Directed by Andrew Traucki, the independent film focuses on ship delivery man Luke (Damian Walshe-Howling, Crushed) and four of his friends as they set sail on the beautiful but dangerous waters of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef to deliver a yacht to its new owner. Along the way, their ship is torn open by sharp rocks and begins to sink, leaving the passengers with a terrifying choice: stay on board with slim hope of rescue, or swim 12 miles to the nearest island — through a watery reef filled with sharks. When they enter the water, an unstoppable, relentless Great White immediately follows their trail … and he’s really hungry!

Also starring obligatory bikini babes Zoe Naylor (TV’s McLeod’s Daughters) and Adrienne Pickering (Knowing), The Reef looks like it’s a cross between Open Water and Jaws (with a little Piranha thrown in for good measure).

The 2010 movie played film festivals around the world but is premiering on disc in the U.S.

The Blu-ray and DVD, which carry the list prices of $29.97 and $27.97, respectively, contain a making-of featurette as the sole special feature. (Click the links to pre-order.)
