Poolboy: Drowning Out the Fury movie scene

Danny Trejo calls the shots in Poolboy.

Kevin Sorbo (Bitch Slap) and Danny Trejo (Predators) star in the 2011 violence-infused gross-out comedy movie Poolboy: Drowning Out the Fury.

It’s a nutty one: Vietnam veteran and former pool cleaner Sal Bando (Sorbo) returns home to So-Cal to find that white suburbia has been tarnished with Mexican laborers who have taken over all the local pool cleaning business. Even worse, his wife is having an affair with a rival Mexican pool cleaner (Bryan Callen). And if that isn’t bad enough, Bando’s wife and son are then killed by bad-ass Mexican boss Caesar (Trejo). Infuriated, Bando sets off on a brutal mission to reclaim his rightful vocation and enact his revenge on the man who destroyed his family.

The first film directed by Garrett Brawith, who’s better known as an actor (Diary of a Serial Killer), and filled with lots of “racial” flavor, gross-out humor, cartoony violence and gore and, of course, some nudity, Poolboy is a send-up of sorts of the over-the-top Rambo-styled action movies of the 1980s and 1990s. (The movie is actually presented as a “lost 1990 action film.”)

Two things worth noting: First, this is the second of two comedies about poolboys to come out in a two-month period, the first being The Pool Boys starring Matthew Lillard and Tom Arnold, which was released on DVD by Entertainment One in December 2011. Those pool guys must know some powerful movie people.

Next, Poolboy is one of more than a dozen films produced in 2011 to feature the always-welcome Danny Trejo, whose other recent credits include A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas, Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World, Dark Games, House of the Rising Sun and Recoil. And don’t forget he also has a recurring role on TV’s Sons of Anarchy. Trejo couldn’t be busier and we couldn’t be happier for him!

Check out the Poolboy: Drowning Out the Fury trailer, which sort of reminds us of Robert Rodriguez’s Machete (also starring Trejo):
