Little Girl movie scene

An abandoned two-year-old comes into the lives of a group of circus folk in Little Girl.

The 2010 Italian film drama Little Girl (or La Pivellina in its native tongue) is a tale of a group of people at the margins of society who open their hearts to a stranger who is, in this case, a two-year-old girl.

In a run-down park on the outskirts of Rome, said two-year-old girl (Asia Crippa) is discovered and taken in by a family of hard-luck circus performers. A note in the child’s pocket from a desperate mother reveals little about who she is or why she was left. Soon, a strong bond grows between the girl and her surrogate family, the members of whom move on with their lives while attempting to incorporate her into it.

Co-directed by Tizza Covi and Rainer Frimmel from a script by Covi, Little Girl is served in a neorealist framework in the style of the great Roberto Rossellini (Open City) Vittorio De Sica (The Bicycle Thief).

Following a rollout to film festivals across the world, Little Girl popped up in one U.S. theater in August, 2011 to generally positive reviews.

An interview with the director is included as a bonus feature on the DVD.
