The Hunger Games, the first movie taken from Collins’ Hunger Games trilogy of bestsellers, has grossed more than $400 million at the domestic box office, and around $650 million at the worldwide box office.

Set in a future, dystopic America where the nation is divided into twelves districts, the movie is about an annual competition wherein one young male and one young female from each district us forced to participate. Broadcast live throughout the country for the entertainment of the Capitol’s wealthy residents live, the “Hunger Games” competition finds the participants placed in a hostile environment where they must fight each other to the death until only one survives. Seventeen-year-old Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence, X-Men: First Class) volunteers in her younger sister’s place to enter the games, and is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts and skills when she’s pitted against highly trained competitors who have prepared for the Games their entire lives. If she’s ever to return to her home in District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.
