The biggest geekdom event of the year, Comic-Con 2012 takes over the San Diego Convention Center July 12 to 15. If you’re lucky enough to have one of those sold out tickets, here’s some Blu-ray- and DVD-related events you might want to check out:
July 12, 2pm to 3pm: Before and After: A Behind the Scenes Look at Star Trek: The Next Generation’s Journey Into High Definition.
Yep, that’s right, space wasn’t the final frontier. Star Trek: The Next Generation — The First Season arrives on high-definition Blu-ray on July 24, and during this Comic-Con panel, fans will gets an insider’s look at how the original film elements were transferred. The panel also will show how the visual effects were recreated from the source material to look their best.
Filmmaker and DVD producer Robert Meyer Burnett will moderate the panel, which includes Roger Lay, Jr. (Blu-ray producer/director), Mike and Denise Okuda (Blu-ray consultants), David S. Grant (VP of Multimedia at CBS Television Distribution), Ryan Adams (Director of Multimedia at CBS Television Distribution), Craig Weiss (Creative Director at CBS Digital), Eric Bruno (Lead Compositor) and Wade Felker (Film Transfer Technician).
July 13, 7:30pm: Resident Evil: Damnation Panel
The Resident Evil franchise gets a new sibling on Sept. 25, the CGI-animated Resident Evil: Damnation, which bows on Blu-ray and DVD. The movie is a sequel to Resident Evil: Degeneration, with Leon S. Kennedy fighting the ultimate battle against evil creatures in an Eastern European nation torn by civil war.
The Comic-Con panel includes the world premiere of the movie’s trailer as well as the first seven minutes of the film, followed by a Q&A with director Makoto Kamiya and producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi.
July 14, 1pm and 7pm: Starship Troopers: Invasion Worldwide Premiere
The latest addition to the ever-expanding Starship Troopers franchise, Starship Troopers: Invasion arrives on DVD and Blu-ray on Aug. 28. Also a CGI-animated movie, Invasion finds Johnny Rico, Captain Ibanez and Carl Jenkins on a mission to rescue survivors of a Federation outpost that’s being attacked by the bugs.
Executive producers Casper Van Dien and Ed Neumeier and director Shinji Aramaki will be doing a signing at 1pm, and the film will get its worldwide premiere at 7pm, followed by a Q&A.
