Brad Pitt (Moneyball) stars in the zombie apocalypse action-adventure horror film World War Z, which will be released to the home market in its unrated form as well as in its PG-13 theatrical incarnation.

“I’m really excited for fans to see the new unrated version of World War Z on Blu-ray,” said producer and star Pitt.  “We were thrilled with the audience response to the film in theaters and wanted to give viewers even more of the action and intensity that they loved when they watch the film at home.”

World War Z movie scene

Brad Pitt gets in gear in World War Z.

In the film, the future of civilization is threatened when a chaotic pandemic that transforms people into fast-moving, flesh-eating zombies is unleashed upon the world. This leads to former UN investigator Gerry Lane (Pitt) leaving of his wife (Mireille Enos, TV’s The Killing) and children and traveling across the globe to South Korea, Jerusalem and Wales in an attempt to find a cure for the outbreak.

Based on the best-selling novel of the same name, World War Z is directed by Marc Forster and features the work of five credited screenwriters, including Matthew Michael Carnahan, Drew Goddard and Damon Lindelof.

World War Z was available as a digital download on Sept. 10, a week prior to its Blu-ray and DVD release. The movie was also digitally re-mastered for the IMAX 3D format and will be released in select IMAX theaters domestically last week for an exclusive one-week run.

Not surprisingly, it’s also garnered a solid base of positive reviews.
