New Release: Psycho 50th Anniversary Blu-ray

Alfred Hitchcock’s classic thriller Psycho turned 50 in 2010, and to celebrate, Universal Studios Home Entertainment debuted the horror movie on high-definition Blu-ray on Oct. 19. The film also was honored at the 2010 Festival De Cannes, where it was chosen as a Cannes Classic Selection.

Perhaps Hitchcock’s most awed movie, Psycho stars Anthony Perkins as a motel manager with a mean mother and Janet Leigh as the thieving beauty who’s Bates’ object of desire … until a fateful shower. Disc Dish named Psycho to the top of its Mother’s Day Big Bad Mama movies list. The film also topped the American Film Institute’s “100 Years … 100 Thrills” list.

For the Blu-ray release, Universal restored the film’s audio and video, using the original sound effects and effects from the studio’s library to create a 5.1 mix to bring Psycho‘s soundtrack up to newer technology while keeping with Hitchcock’s vision, according to the studio.

The Blu-ray also includes a creepy house full of special features. Here’s the list:
