New Release: Golden Girls Complete Series DVD

The Golden Girls TV show sceneWalt Disney Studios Home Entertainment brought out The Golden Girls: 25th Anniversary Complete Collection DVD on Nov. 9, 2010, in a collectible box styled as a replica of Sophia’s wicker purse.

The 21-disc limited edition collection includes all seven years of the TV show’s episodes, which originally aired from 1985 and 1992. The sitcom follows four older friends — played by Beatrice Arthur, Betty White, Rue McClanahan and Estelle Getty — who move in together in Miami.

During the Emmy Award-winning show’s run, Dorothy was wooed by Sonny Bono, Rose tried sky-diving to woe a man and Blanche mistook menopause for pregnancy. Other guest stars included Burt Reynolds, Leslie Nielsen, Merv Griffin, Alex Trebek, Debbie Reynolds and a young George Clooney (The Peacemaker), who played a Miami cop who saved the day.
