New Release: The Sorcerer’s Apprentice DVD and Blu-ray

The Sorcerer's Apprentice movie sceneWalt Disney Studios Home Entertainment paired up the DVD and Blu-ray release of fantasy film The Sorcerer’s Apprentice with the Blu-ray debut of its inspiration, Fantasia, on Nov. 30, 2010.

Starring Nicholas Cage (Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans) as the sorcerer and Jay Baruchel (She’s Out of My League) as the apprentice, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice movie is inspired by a segment of the same name from the original animated Fantasia. In the segment, Mickey Mouse is a sorcerer’s apprentice who gets in over his head when he tries to use magic to help him with his chores.

In the movie, Cage is a master sorcerer in modern-day Manhattan who tries to defend the city from his arch-nemesis, played by Alfred Molina (Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time). In his quest to save the day, Cage recruits seemingly average guy Baruchel as a protégé, after Baruchel demonstrates hidden potential.

The PG-rated fantasy film, which also stars Monica Bellucci (The Private Lives of Pippa Lee) and Toby Kebbell (Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time), grossed $61.7 million in theaters.
