New Release: Mother and Child Blu-ray and DVD

The drama Mother and Child came to Blu-ray and DVD on Dec. 14, 2010, from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The Blu-ray carried a suggested retail price of $38.96, while the DVD was priced at $28.95.

The critically acclaimed independent film from writer/director Rodrigo García (Nine Lives) stars Academy Award nominees Annette Bening (American Beauty), Naomi Watts (21 Grams) and Samuel L. Jackson (The Other Guys), along with Kerry Washington (Lakeview Terrace) and Jimmy Smits (TV’s Outlaw).

Mother and Child grossed $1.1 million during its limited release in theaters in the spring and summer of 2010.

The movie chronicles the compelling stories of three women — a 50-year-old (Bening), the daughter she gave up for adoption 35 years earlier (Watts) and an African-American (Washington) seeking to adopt a child of her own — whose lives become fatefully intertwined by the unbreakable bond between mother and child.

Blu-ray and DVD special features include the following:

  • commentary by writer/director Rodrigo Garcia
  • deleted scenes
  • “Creating the Family Tree” featurette
  • and “Universally Connected” featurette, in which cast and crew discuss the universal themes in the film.
