New Release: Night Catches Us Blu-ray and DVD

Romance, drama and politics — all fiery! — collide in the, er, political romantic drama Night Catches Us, which Magnolia Home Entertainment released on DVD and Blu-ray Disc on Feb. 1, 2011.

The movie takes place in 1976. After years of mysterious absence, Marcus (Anthony Mackie, The Hurt Locker) returns to the politically torn Philadelphia neighborhood where he came of age in the midst of the 1960s’ Black Power movement. While his arrival raises suspicion among his family and former neighbors, he finds acceptance from his old friend Patricia (Kerry Washington, Mother and Child) and her daughter (Jamara Grifin).

However, Marcus quickly finds himself at odds with the organization he once embraced, whose members suspect he orchestrated the slaying of their former comrade-in-arms. Following a startling sequence of complicated and sometimes ugly events, Marcus must protect a secret that could shatter everyone’s beliefs as he rediscovers his true feelings for Patricia.

Written and directed by first-time film director Tanya Hamilton, Night Catches Us received a token limited release in theaters in December, where it grossed approximately $30,000.

No special featuresare on the DVD and Blu-ray, which carry the suggested retail prices of $26.98 and $29.98, respectively.
