New Release: I Love You Phillip Morris DVD and Blu-ray

I Love You Phillip Morris movie sceneJim Carrey (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) teams up with Ewan McGregor (The Ghost Writer) for the comedy I Love You Phillip Morris, which debuted on DVD and Blu-ray on April 5, 2011, from Lionsgate.

Based on the book by Steve McVicker, the movie stars Carrey as Steven Russell, a small-town businessman who lives an idealic life with his wife until a car accident makes him reconsider his priorities. He becomes open about his homosexuality and decides to live life to its fullest, even if he has to become a con artist to do it. His fraudulant acts get him put in jail, where he meets and falls for Phillip Morris (McGregor), and he becomes determined to do whatever he can to break Morris out.

The movie also is based on the true story of a man whose cons made him the most wanted man in Texas, a man who escaped from the Texas prison system four times.

The R-rated independent film was produced in 2009 and released in theaters overseas early in 2010r. In December, it made its way to a limited release in theaters in the U.S. and grossed $1.1 million.

I Love You Phillip Morris includes a making-of featurette and a commentary with the writers/directors and producer on DVD and Blu-ray. Each are priced at $27.98 and $39.99, respectively.
