New Release: Les Miserables DVD and Blu-ray

Les Miserable sceneThe legendary Broadway Show Les Miserables celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2010 with a special show starring the Jonas Brothers’ Nick Jonas and Tony Award winner Lea Salonga, the singing voice of Disney’s Mulan and Princess Jasmine. Universal Studios Home Entertainment released the live recording of the 25th anniversary Les Miserables on DVD and Blu-ray on Feb. 22, 2011.

Based on the novel by Victor Hugo, the musical is a love story set in France during the French revolution. Ex-con Jean Valjean (Alfie Boe) has transformed himself into an upstanding part of the community and has become mayor and owner of a factory. But when he helps Fantine (Salonga), one of his former workers,Valjean’s past is brought up and he is forced to leave everything and run from the chief of police, Javert (Norm Lewis).

Nine years later, Valjean has raised Fantine’s daughter Cosette (Katie Hall), who has fallen in love with Marius (Jonas), a fighter in the French revolution. As the revolution continues and with Javert still on the hunt, Valjean, Cosette and Marius must consider what they’re willing to sacrifice for love and justice.

The almost three-hour 25th anniversary show featured more than 500 artists and musicians, both from the U.S. and U.K. casts, and was screened in theaters.

The DVD was priced at $29.98 and Blu-ray at $39.98.
