New Release: Rabbit Hole DVD and Blu-ray

Rabbit Hole movie sceneOscar nominee Rabbit Hole, starring Nicole Kidman (Nine) and Aaron Eckhart (Love Happens), was released on DVD and Blu-ray on April 19, 2011.

Distributed by Lionsgate, the independent film tells the story of a couple (Kidman and Eckhart) in the aftermath of their son’s death. Eight months on, they’re struggling to find a semblance of a normal life, as Kidman deals with her sister’s new pregnancy and befriends the boy (newcomer Miles Teller) who was driving the car that hit and killed her son.

The acclaimed drama also stars Dianne Wiest (TV’s In Treatment) as Kidman’s mother and Sandra Oh (TV’s Grey’s Anatomy) as a woman Eckhart meets in group therapy.

Rabbit Hole, which is nominated for a best actress Academy Award for Kidman, is based on the play by David Lindsay-Abaire, who also wrote the film’s screenplay. Rated PG-13, the movie received a limited release in theaters and has grossed $1.3 million. Check out all the 2011 Oscar nominated movies on disc.

Both the DVD and Blu-ray include deleted scenes and a commentary by director John Cameron Mitchell (Hedwig and the Angry Inch), writer Lindsay-Abaire and director of photography Frank G. DeMarco (The Winning Season).

The DVD was priced at $29.95, with the Blu-ray at $39.99.

Interestingly, Rabbit Hole was available on video-on-demand on April 1, 2011, almost three weeks before its disc debut.
