Martina Gusman tries to clean up Ricardo Martin's act in Carancho.

Argentina’s submission for Best Foreign Language Film for the 83rd Academy Awards, the 2010 movie Carancho, arrived on DVD on June 7, 2011, from Strand Releasing.

A bloody and sexy neo-noir co-written and directed by Pablo Trapero (Lion’s Den), Carancho tells the tale of ambulance-chasing attorney Sosa (Ricardo Darin, The Secret in Their Eyes) and idealistic young doctor Lujan (Martina Gusman, Lion’s Den). After their paths cross repeatedly, the two fall into an unlikely romance that is threatened by Sosa’s sordid past. But then again, maybe there’s a future for the two if they use their combined expertise in some corrupt dirty-dealing, involving insurance payouts and legal loopholes.

Following a positive reception at a slew of film festivals around the world (including fetes in Toronto, Rio, Hamburg, London, Glasgow and Hong Kong), Carancho enjoyed a well-reviewed limited release in theaters in the U.S.

Presented in Spanish with English subtitles, the Carancho DVD carries a list price of $27.98.

No bonus features are on the disc.
