New Release: Wake Wood Blu-ray and DVD

Wake Wood movie scene

Pagan rituals are practiced in Wake Wood.

On July 5, 2011, MPI/Dark Sky Films released the supernatural horror-thriller movie Wake Wood, a chiller from England’s venerable horror studio Hammer Films, on Blu-ray and DVD for the list prices of $34.98 and $27.98, respectively.

The film tells the tale of Patrick and Louise Daley (12 Rounds‘ Aiden Gillen and The Children‘s Eva Birthistle), whose young daughter Alice (Ella Connolly) is killed in a ghastly attack by a crazed dog.

Moving to the remote rural Irish community of Wake Wood to escape their grief, the parents are embraced by the strange residents of the town, who introduce the couple to a bizarre pagan ritual that will bring Alice back from the grave – for three days only. Both intrigued and disturbed by the possibilities, the Daleys pursue the action, not having pondered what they will do if the ritual is successful and Alice has to leave them forever when the three days is up…

Directed by David Keating (Summer Fling) and also starring Timothy Spall (Sweeney Todd) and Amelia Crowley (Ella Enchanted), Wake Wood looks like a respectable addition to the Hammer movie pantheon, which includes such classic films as The Curse of Frankenstein and Horror of Dracula.

After a theatrical release in its native England, Wake Wood premiered in the U.S. on Blu-ray and DVD.

No bonus features are on the discs, but if the film is as creepy as the trailer, it won’t need any!
