New Release: Robert Plant’s Blue Note DVD

Robert Plant's Blue Note scene

The singer/songwriter blows in Robert Plant's Blue Note.

MVD Entertainment Group released Robert Plant’s Blue Note, a 2011 feature-length documentary film on the singer/songwriter, on DVD on Aug. 23 for the list price of $19.95.

Though he’ll always be best known as the singer and lyricist of the venerable Led Zeppelin (well, at least to me), Plant has made his way through many different musical territories over his four-decade-plus career. From psychedelia to hard rock to, most recently, country and folk music (alongside such collaborators as Alison Krauss and Patty Griffin), Plant has certainly covered a helluva lot of aural turf.

Robert Plant’s Blue Note documents the man’s on-going tour of musical styles and genres. It covers Plant’s body of work, reviewing the experimentation, compositions and performances that have now become associated with him, particularly over the past decade, where his musical “voyage” has taken him to the plantations of Mississippi, the deserts and townships of Africa and the settlements of the Appalachians.

The 2½ hour movie features rare footage, a performance archive, recorded interviews, contributions from his collaborators, commentary from respected music writers, seldom-seen photographs and more.
