Spy Kids 4The fourth movie in Robert Rodriguez’s (Machete) action franchise, Spy Kids: All the Time In the World didn’t wow fans at the box office. The family film grossed only $36 million, a far cry from the $111.8 million Spy Kids 3: Game Over earned in theaters.

But Spy Kids 4 has plenty of pedigree. Written and directed by Rodriguez, the movie stars Jessica Alba (Little Fockers) as a retired secret agent who’s called back to stop the maniacal Timekeeper (Jeremy Piven, TV’s Entourage). But Alba also has to deal with a baby and her two intelligent twin step-children (Rowan Blanchard and Mason Cook). They get help, of course, from the two former spy kids (Alexa Vega of From Prada to Nada and Daryl Sabara, Machete), as well as their dog Argonaut (Ricky Gervais, The Ricky Gervais Show Season 1) and lots of great gadgets. Rodriguez movie staple Danny Trejo (Predators) also stars.

The lower attention at the box-office could be because the movie was generally panned by critics, getting only 21% in approval, according to Rotten Tomatoes. Audience members liked it more, but they still only gave it an average of 41%. Village Voice reviewer Nick Schager called the film “a tediously cartoonish candy-colored rollercoaster.” Ouch! You can be the judge on disc.

Spy Kids 4 Blu-ray boxAlthough the film doesn’t have a separate Blu-ray 3D version, Anchor Bay and The Weinstein Company put a Blu-ray 3D disc in the Blu-ray edition as a bonus, no doubt to encourage viewers to upgrade.

In total, the Blu-ray package comes with four discs: a high-definition Blu-ray, a standard-definition DVD, the Blu-ray 3D and a disc for a downloadable digital copy of the movie.

Both the DVD and Blu-ray combo packs include these special features:

  • interview with director Robert Rodriguez
  • faeturette “Spy Kids Passing the Torch”
  • “Spy Gadgets” clip
  • deleted scenes
  • and more.
