The Dead movie scene

The zombies are loose in Africa in The Dead!

Reportedly the first horror movie filmed entirely in Africa, the 2010 film The Dead takes the zombie legend back to its original roots.

When the last flight out of war-torn Africa crashes off the coast, Lt. Brian Murphy (Rob Freeman) is the sole survivor in a land where the dead are returning to life and attacking the living. On the run in a hostile and inhospitable parched landscape, Murphy must use his wits and ingenuity if he is to get home alive to his family.

When he crosses paths with local solider Daniel Dembele (Prince David Osei), a man frantically searching for his son, they join forces. Soon, the desperate men from two very different cultures are fighting side-by-side to survive.

Written and directed by British commercial directors and brothers Howard J. Ford and Jon Ford, The Dead garnered great reviews at such genre film festivals as Fantastic Fest, FrightFest and the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival.

The movie received positive reviews from critics during its limited release to U.S. theaters in October 2011 as well. The R-rated film is already a cult favorite.

Bonus features on the DVD and Blu-ray include a commentary by the filmmakers, a featurette and a deleted scene.

Here’s a savage little trailer to chew on:
