Bird of Paradise movie scene

Dolores del Rio (ctr.) does her dance in Bird of Paradise.

Directed by King Vidor (Duel in the Sun), the classic 1932 adventure-romance film Bird of Paradise is an exotic tale set in the lush, picturesque land of Polynesia.

Joel McCrea (Sullivan’s Travels) portrays Johnny, an intrepid young sailor traveling the South Seas who falls in love with Luana (Dolores del Rio, Journey Into Fear), the beautiful daughter of an island chief. But their idyllic romance is destined to come to a sudden and violent end when tribal custom decrees that Luana is to be sacrificed to the local volcano. What to do….?

Based on the 1912 play by Richard Walton Tully, the movie also stars John Halliday, Richard “Skeets” Gallagher and Lon Chaney Jr.

Restored and remastered in high definition by the George Eastman House, Kino Lorber’s edition of Bird of Paradise–a public domain title– is reportedly the only authorized edition from the estate of executive producer David O. Selznick.

There are no bonus features on the DVD or Blu-ray.
