Based on the cult classic TV series, Dark Shadows stars Johnny Depp (The Rum Diary) in yet another Tim Burton (Alice in Wonderland) movie.

In their seventh collaboration, Depp stars as Barnabas Collins, a playboy in the 1770s town of Collinsport who breaks the heart of Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green, TV’s Camelot). Problem is, Angelique is a witch, and she turns Barnabas into a vampire and buries him alive. When he’s accidentally freed two centuries later in 1972, Barnabas returns to his old mansion in Collinsport only to find a house full of dysfunctional ancestors who are in need of his protection.

Michelle Pfeiffer (New Year’s Eve), Helena Bonham Carter (The King’s Speech), Jackie Earle Haley (A Nightmare On Elm Street), Jonny Lee Miller (TV’s Dexter), Christopher Lee (The Lord of the Rings movies) and Chloe Grace Moretz (Hugo) also star in the comedy fantasy film, which was the first feature written by Seth Grahame-Smith, who followed the PG-13 movie with Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

Dark Shadows earned $79 million in theaters, but got mixed reviews from critics and moviegoers, who called it silly, long and, as Newark Star-Ledger critic Stephen Whitty said, “not the movie this Dark Shadows fan hoped to see.”
