The stars of NBC sitcom Up All Night are very comfortable in television comedy: Christina Applegate (TV’s Samantha Who? and Married With Children), Maya Rudolph (TV’s Saturday Night Live) and Will Arnett (TV’s Arrested Development).
Applegate and Arnett play a married couple trying to balance family and everything else after the birth of their first child. Their life is made difficult by friend and Applegate’s co-worker Maya Rudolph, the self-involved host of a TV talk show.
In the first season, Up All Night wrestles with various new parents laughs, such as probems with buying a family friendly but boring car, stress about parenting skills and dealing with grandparents. Later in the season, the show focuses less on the baby, with episodes about Applegate’s competitiveness coming out during a New Year’s Eve game night, Applegate and Rudolph dealing with a rival talk show and Applegate and Arnett trying too hard while wooing new couple friends.
The three-DVD set has all 24 episodes of the season one but no special features.
