Dreams of a Life is a 2012 documentary film by writer/director Carol Morley wherein the filmmaker tries to solve the mystery of Joyce Vincent, a 38-year-old woman who died in her apartment in one of the busiest parts of North London in 2003—and lay undiscovered for three years after her death.

Filmmaker Morley sets out to learn about the life of Joyce Vincent, a woman whose death was barely noted in newspapers. In fact, press coverage offered very few details for her life—not even a photograph. The facts of the discovery began with Vincent’s apartment being forced into by authorities due to lack of rent payment. Her skeleton was found surround by Christmas presents that she was in the process of wrapping. And the television was still on.

Morley placed advertisements in newspapers, on the Internet and on the side of a London taxi and eventually discovered Vincent’s former friends, lovers and colleagues. Their testimonies, together with re-imagined scenes from Vincent’ life, form a unique portrait of Joyce, and some insight into the world she inhabited.

Received well by the critics, the unrated Dreams of a Life received a limited release to U.S. theaters in August, 2012.

There are no bonus features on the DVD.
