True DetectiveHBO’s critically acclaimed TV show True Detective is headlined by two heavyhitting cast members.

Woody Harrelson (Seven Psychopaths) and Matthew McConaughey (The Wolf of Wall Street) play Lousiana detectives and former partners Martin Hart and Rust Cohle, respectively. Hart’s an outgoing family man with two kids and struggling marriage to wife Maggie (Michelle Monaghan, Source Code). Cohle was an undercover narcotics detective in Texas who now has a bleak view of the world.

The two are interviewed in 2012 about their most notorious case: the 1995 murder of a prostitute by a possible serial killer with occult leanings.

Created by writer and novelist Nic Pizzolatto (TV’s The Killing), True Detective scored a whopping 85% approval from critics and 98% approval from TV viewers, according to Rotten Tomatoes.

As is HBO’s style, the DVD and Blu-ray contain a bunch of special features. Here’s the list:

  • “Making True Detective” behind-the-scenes featurette, including cast and crew interviews and new footage from episode four.
  • “Up Close With Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson” interviews with the stars about filming the series
  • “A Conversation With Nic Pizzolatto and T Bone Burnett” interview with the creator and composer about how music played a role in the show’s development
  • “Inside the Episode” with Nic Pizzolatto and director Cary Joji Fukunaga discussing character development and offering insights into each episode of the crime drama
  • audio commentaries with Nic Pizzolatto, composer T Bone Burnett and executive producer Scott Stephens on two episodes
  • and deleted scenes.

The three-disc Blu-ray set also offers digital downloads of the eight episodes.
