Starring, directed, and co-written (with Jack Rosenthal) by the legendary Barbra Streisand (Funny Girl), the 1983 romantic musical drama Yentl is adapted from an Isaac Bashevis Singer story.

yentl1The tale is about a Jewish girl (Streisand) who, after her beloved scholar-father’s death, disguises herself as a young man so she can continue her education in Talmudic Law. Her deception involves her in a triangle with an attractive fellow student (Mandy Patinkin, TV’s Homeland) and his subservient fiancée (Amy Irving, Crossing Delancy).

Making its Blu-ray debut with this Twilight Time release, the movie features an Oscar-winning score by Michel Legrand, with lyrics by Marilyn and Alan Bergman.
