Adapted by Ruth Prawer Jhabvala (and an uncredited Harold Pinter) from the novel by Kazuo Ishiguro, the 1993 period drama The Remains of the Day is brought to the screen by the celebrated filmmaking team of director James Ivory and producer Ismail Merchant.

the-remains-of-the-day-1_optAnthony Hopkins (Thor) incarnates an enigmatic figure: Stevens, the perfect English butler at the stately home of Lord Darlington (James Fox, Red Riding 1980). Stevens’ highly ordered life is ruffled by the arrival of a lively new housekeeper, Miss Kenton (Emma Thompson, Brave), and the encroachment of apparently pro-Nazi appeasement politics as the 1930s come to an uneasy close.

Nominated for eight Academy Awards including Best Picture, the movie also features appearances by Christopher Reeve (Superman) and Hugh Grant (Cloud Atlas).

As supplier Twilight Time prints up only 3,000 copies of each title, be prepared to preorder the title from distributor Screen Archives when it prebooks towards the end of March.
