Jafar Panahi’s Taxi finds internationally acclaimed director Panahi (This is Not a Film) driving a yellow cab through the vibrant streets of Tehran, picking up a diverse (and yet representative) group of passengers in a single day.

Taxi1_optIn the docu-fiction (or docu-drama, or even docu-comedy), each man, woman, and child candidly expresses his or her own view of the world, while being interviewed by the curious and gracious driver/director. His camera, placed on the dashboard of his mobile film studio, captures a spirited slice of Iranian society while also brilliantly redefining the borders of comedy, drama and cinema.

Also known as Taxi Tehran, the 2015 film premiered in competition at the 65th Berlin International Film Festical, where in won the Golden Bear and the FIPRESCI Prize. In 2010, Panahi was banned from making films and traveling, so his niece Hana Saeidi, who also appears in the film, collected the award on his behalf.

As a bonus feature, the DVD and Blu-ray contain a booklet essay by filmmaker and scholar Jamsheed Akrami.
