From Gayle Kirschenbaum, creator of 2004’s memorable A Dog’s Life: A Dogamentary, comes Look At Us Now, Mother!, a documentary about the transformation of the relationship between a mother and daughter.

Gayle Kirschenbaum (r.) and her mother Mildred in the 2015 doc Look At Us Now, Mother!

An unflinching look at the complex bond between mother and daughter, Look At Us Now, Mother! has its roots in My Nose, a humorous 2007 short in which Gayle Kirschenbaum introduced us to her hypercritical mother, Mildred, as she pressed Gayle to have a nose job! The short film prompted Kirschenbaum to create this 2015 feature-length follow-up.

In the midst of shooting, Gayle’s father died, changing the dynamics of her relationship with Mildred as they headed together and started traveling the world. Gayle kept cameras on as they moved through countries, continents, time zones – and emotional minefields. What ultimately emerges here is an intimate family study with both humor and pathos in the midst of conflicts and affections that bind mother and daughter. As these two formidable women endure the bumpy road of discovery, their relationship changes before our eyes and teaches us a universal lesson: the power of forgiveness.

The winner of the Grand Prize at the Rhode Island International Film Festival, Look At Us Now, Mother! was well-received by the critics, garner an 80% rating at aggregator Rotten Tomatoes based on 10 published reviews.
