The comedy-mystery The Hippopotamus is based on Stephen Fry’s novel of the same name, making the first time one of Fry’s novels has been adapted for the screen.

The movie tells the story of a disgruntled, cantankerous, semi-famous poet named Ted Wallace (Roger Allam, The Woman in Black) who is summoned to a country manor to investigate a series of unexplained miracles. Also along for the ride are co-stars Matthew Modine (The Dark Knight Rises), Tim McInnerny (TV’s Game of Thrones) and Fiona Shaw (Harry Potter franchise).

The film is directed by John Jencks and produced by Jay Taylor and Alexa Seligman.

Bonus features on the Blu-ray and DVD include a Making-of and Book to Screen Featurette, as well as interviews with the cast and crew. Exclusive to the Blu-ray is a Q&A recorded live at the Hay Festival in Wales, featuring author Stephen Fry, along with Allam and Jencks.
