New Release: Sanctuary and other TV shows on DVD and Blu-ray

Sanctuary scene with Amanda TappingScience-fiction TV show Sanctuary bowed its second season on DVD and Blu-ray June 15, 2010, as well as debut the first season on Blu-ray. The DVD set was priced at $44.98, with the Blu-ray only $5 more expensive at $49.98.

Starring Stargate SG-1‘s Amanda Tapping, who has garnered quite a following with sci-fi fans, Sanctuary follows a team who track down and protect “abnormals,” beings with powers living on Earth in secret. Season two even features an episode with fellow Stargate SG-1 cast member Michael Shanks.

Entertainment One, which is distributing the show on disc, also is offering retailers a five-DVD rental pack that has a bonus disc. Both season one and season two offer 13 episodes on four discs.

In the special features menu, both seasons have commentaries with cast and crew members on all episodes and bloopers. Also on tap on season two:

  • Behind-the-scenes featurettes
  • Robin Dunne Video Diary
  • “Anatomy of an Episode”
  • and, exclusive to Blu-ray, Interactive Green Screen Episode

The season one Blu-ray has the same extras as the DVD plus the Blu-ray exclusive Interactive Green Scene Episode of the 90-minute pilot. The others extras are the original Sanctuary Webisodes, three making-of featurettes and a behind-the-scenes photo gallery.

The sets come about a month before Comic-Con 2010, and Sanctuary promises to be at the show. The discs also will be promoted with a national radio campaign, online exposure and print advertising, not to mention ads on broadcast channel Syfy, where the show airs.

Sherri: Season One DVD boxLifetime sitcoms Sherri: The Complete Season One and Rita Rocks: The Complete Season One, starring comedienne Sherri Shepherd (Everybody Loves Raymond) and Nicole Sullivan (The King of Queens), respectively, bowed April 27, 2010, through A&E.

Rita Rocks: Season One DVD boxSherri is a two-DVD set priced at $19.95, and Rita Rocks has three DVDs for $24.95.

On May 4, 2010, the Golden Globe and Emmy-winning drama television series Marcus Welby, M.D. finally bowed on disc. Season one has all 26 episodes in a seven-DVD set priced at $49.97.

The medical drama series from the late-1960s, 70s, stars Robert Young and James Brolin, father of No Country for Old Men‘s Josh Brolin.

The DVD set, which is distributed by NBC Universal Television and Shout! Factory, also offers the two-hour pilot “A Matter Of Humanities.”
