New Release: Shutter Island DVD and Blu-ray

Shutter Island movie scene with Leonardo DiCaprio and Michelle WilliamsMartin Scorsese’s suspense thriller Shutter Island was released on DVD and Blu-ray on June 8, 2010.

Set in 1954, the acclaimed film, with its twist ending, grossed $125 million at the box office. Shutter Island stars Leonardo DiCaprio as a detective trying to get to the bottom of a mystery at a psychiatric institution. Mark Ruffalo plays his partner, Michelle Williams his late wife and Sir Ben Kingsley and Max von Sydow are doctors.

The movie is based on the best-selling novel by writer Dennis Lehane, who also wrote Mystic River and Gone Baby Gone, which also were adapted for the screen.

Paramount Home Entertainment brought Shutter Island to the home market as a vanilla release on DVD and with two featurettes on Blu-ray:

  • “Behind the Shutters,” following the film from its inception as a novel to its adaptation for the big screen and including cast and crew interviews.
  • “Into the Lighthouse,” about the history of psychiatric therapies during the 50s, also with cast and crew interviews.

The DVD was priced at $19.99, the Blu-ray at $29.99. The movie is in 16×9 widescreen on both versions, with Dolby Digital 5.1 sound on the DVD and DTS-HD on the Blu-ray.
