New Release: Betty White in Black and White DVD

Betty White’s domination of the entertainment world continued in the home entertainment arena with MVD Entertainment’s DVD release of Betty White in Black and White, a retrospective collection of Ms. White’s television work in the 1950s. The DVD was released on Nov. 9, 2010, for a suggested retail price of $14.95.

Clocking in at over three hours, the DVD features two episodes from White’s first acclaimed TV series, Life With Elizabeth (1953-55), a pair of installments from her daytime television series The Betty White Show (1954), another two from the classic show Date With the Angels (1957-58) and, finally, material from the 1958 version of the The Betty White Show, which aired in the evenings.

Amongst the daytime Betty White Show segments is an episode from November 1954, in which White sings and dances and laughs it up in a few sketches, in addition to being joined by surprise canine guest Rin Tin Tin and receiving a message from none other than Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. (White also delivers live commercials for Geritol and the 7-Day Diet Plan.)

Representing Life With Elizabeth is a key episode that features Richard Deacon (Mel on The Dick Van Dyke Show) and Nancy Kulp (The Beverly Hillbillies).
