MPI Media Group and Dark Sky Films released the darkly comic thriller Bitter Feast on DVD on Jan. 4, 2011, for a suggested retail price of $24.95.
Writer/director Joe Maggio’s (Paper Covers Rock) latest independent film plays upon the current media and Internet obsession with celebrity chefs.
In Bitter Feast, notorious and influential food blogger J.T. Franks (Joshua Leonard, Hatchet) writes a particularly vicious review that doesn’t sit at all well with its subject, Peter Grey (James LeGros, Zodiac), a chef whose career is already on a downslide and might not survive this latest blow.
So, the temperamental, egotistical chef concocts an elaborate and deadly revenge scheme. Grey kidnaps Franks and chains him in a remote cabin in the woods, where he forces him to prepare deceptively simple dishes – from eggs over easy to medium-rare steak – before getting really nasty with him!
Bitter Feast was produced by indie horror film guru/director Larry Fessenden (Habit, The Last Winter), who also co-stars in the movie along with famed celebrity chef Mario Batali (TV’s Iron Chef America).
The Bitter Feast DVD contains the following bonus features:
- feature-length commentary with writer-director Joe Maggio along with producers Larry Fessenden, Peter Phok, Brent Kunkle and sound designer Graham Reznick
- “Making Bitter Feast” featurette
