Interview: Dave Foley of Coopers' Christmas

Dave Fpley headshotIndependent comedy Coopers’ Christmas (a.k.a. Coopers’ Camera) was released on DVD on Nov. 16, 2010, by Anchor Bay in time to spread some holiday joy — or havoc, as is more appropriate for this film. Designed as a series of home movies shot during one disastrous Christmas Eve, the 2008 movie was written by and stars Jason Jones (TV’s As the World Turns) and Mike Beaver (Kids in the Hall: Death Comes to Town) and continues a series of comedic movies by the pair that started with 2004’s Ham & Cheese. Both movies also star Samantha Bee (Motherhood) and comedian Dave Foley (Vampires Suck, TV’s NewsRadio). For Foley, doing another project with his two friends was a no-brainer, even though Coopers’ Christmas did have some strange requirements — he’s naked for most of the film.

Foley talked to Disc Dish about the movie.

Disc Dish: Congratulations on this film. It’s very funny.

Dave Foley: I think it’s hilarious.

Coopers Christmas DVD boxDD: How did you get involved with Coopers’ Christmas?

DF: I knew Jason Jones and Mike Beaver from before. They had done the movie Ham & Cheese a few years earlier and I was in that. They’re great writers, great comedians. I had known them for a long time. And Mike Beaver called me up one day and asked me if I’d like to be in a movie, and I said yes. He said good, but you’ll have to be naked all the time.

DD: So the being naked part didn’t bother you?

DF: No, it didn’t bother me. I’m at an age where I figure everyone’s seen it all before and they’re used to it. Or I’m old enough that I don’t care what I look like.

DD: In the featurette on the DVD, Mike Beaver says it was your idea to be naked all the time in the film.

DF: Well, you see, they’re liars.

DD: What other movies are you working on now?

DF: I’m working on a third movie with Jason Jones and Mike Beaver. They’re doing a movie set in a restaurant that’s about to be bought out by a foreign company, so all the waiters and cooks rebel.

DD: Sounds like another fun one.

DF: Yeah, it’ll be great.
