New Release: Happiness is a Warm Blanket, Charlie Brown DVD

Happiness is a Warm Blanket, Charlie Brown DVD boxSnoopy, Charlie Brown and the rest of the Peanuts Gang came to DVD in their first new movie in five years on March 29, 2011. Happiness Is a Warm Blanket Charlie Brown was released by Warner Home Video.

Produced by Warner Premiere, the studio’s DVD premiere production company, Happiness is a Warm Blanket tells the story of Linus, who’s pushed to his limits when he finds out that his grandmother is coming and plans to get rid of his most cherished possession, his beloved security blanket. It’s the Peanuts gang to the rescue as the day Linus’ grandmother arrives looms closer. Lucy applies her psychiatric techniques, Charlie Brown can’t stand to see Linus suffer and Snoopy agitates matters because he wants the blanket for himself.

The animated movie contains ideas created by Peanuts creator Charles M. Schulz, who died in 2000, and Craig Schulz, Charles’ son, served as an executive producer and writer for the cartoon along with Stephen Pastis.

Happiness is a Warm Blanket, Charlie Brown is based directly from Peanuts strips my dad drew from the 1960s, which I personally like the best,” said Craig Schulz. “Maybe it is because I can see so much of my family life embedded in those years. In this special, we tried to show how all kids have security issues, not just Linus, and not all are as secure as one would think. We bring back Shermy, Patty and Violet, and if you are a true Peanuts fan, you will notice others that formed the foundation for Charlie Brown’s neighborhood.”

The film was directed by animator Andy Beall (Up, Ratatouille) and Frank Molieri (The Simpsons Movie).

The DVD was priced at $19.98, with a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack at $23.99.
