New Release: A French Gigolo DVD

A French Gigolo movie scene

Nathalie Baye plants one on Eric Caravaca in A French Gigolo.

A French Gigolo, a 2008 romantic comedy/drama from France that stars the legendary Nathalie Baye (Day for Night), arrived on DVD in the U.S. from IFC on Feb. 8, 2011. The disc will carry a list price of $24.98.

Directed by Josiane Balasko, the movie (known as Cliente in its native France) finds Ms. Baye portraying Judith, the host and owner of a leading home shopping TV program in Paris.

Divorced and successful but wary of love, Judith hides a dark secret from everyone but her sister: She regularly pays for younger male lovers from a host of escorts on the Internet. Judith finds the erotic adventures wonderfully impersonal (and satisfying!) until the day she chooses Patrick (Eric Caravaca, Son Frère), a handsome and charmingly sheepish man who is clearly not a pro.

“Patrick” is actually Marco, a happily married guy just desperate for money to keep his wife Fanny’s (Isabelle Carré, Private Fears in Public Places) new hair salon afloat. Would you believe that some wacky shenanigans quickly ensue…?

Well-reviewed during its theatrical and film festival release across Europe, A French Gigolo arrives on U.S. shore as a DVD premiere movie.

No special features are on the DVD of A French Gigolo, which is presented in French with English subtitles.
