Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment capitalized on the buzz of the theatrical release of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides by sneaking out a new Blu-ray collection of the first three films in the franchise.
The Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy Seven-Disc Blu-ray collection includes the two-disc sets of the original movies — Curse of the Black Pearl, Dead Man’s Chest and At World’s End — as well as a seventh disc with new special features, including a sneak peek of On Stranger Tides.
The new Blu-ray package, priced at $72.99, also contains deleted scenes with introductions and commentary by Gore Verbinski, director of the first three movies.
In On Stranger Tides, directed by Rob Marshall (Nine), Johnny Depp’s (The Tourist) Sparrow and Geoffrey Rush’s (The King’s Speech) Barbossa go on a quest to find the elusive fountain of youth and discover that Blackbeard and his daughter are after it too. Although Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom aren’t in the new story, the film instead co-stars Penelope Cruz (Broken Embraces), Ian McShane (The Pillars of the Earth) and Judi Dench (Hamlet).
