New Release: Breaking Glass DVD and Blu-ray

Breaking Glass movie scene

Hazel O'Connor is shattered in Breaking Glass.

Breaking Glass, the seminal 1980 musical movie about the London punk and new wave scene starring English rock queen Hazel O’Connor, received its U.S. DVD and Blu-ray debut on Aug. 16, 2011, from Olive Films.

Written and directed by Brian Gibson, the film focuses on Kate (O’Connor), the lead singer of a rock group called — surprise! — Breaking Glass. Kate’s socialist ways of thinking slam up against those of her pragmatic manager, Danny (Phil Daniels, Quadrophenia), a streetwise hustler who discovers her and tries to maker her into a star.

Ms. O’Connor, who’s still an active recording and performing artist, wrote and performed 13 songs in the film, which co-stars Jon Finch (Macbeth) and a young Jonathan Pryce (Brazil) as the band’s junkie saxophone player.

No special features are on the DVD, which was remastered in high definition from a 35mm archive print and carries a list price of $24.95.
