Comment Ca Va? movie sceneDirected by the legendary Jean-Luc Godard (Histoire(s) du cinema, Weekend), 1978’s Comment Ca Va? is a downright Godardian drama combining video and film in its dissemination and processing of information, both literary and visual.

Two workers of a communist newspaper strike out to make a film and video about the newspaper and the printing plant. One of the workers, Odette (Anne-Marie Mieville), has strange ideas about content and form and how the film should be made. The paper’s champion is its editor (Michel Marot), who is being challenged by Odette, his secretary. Appalled that modern technology holds such sway over the paper, Odette asserts that her boss’s editorial methods have been weakened because he is a lackey who crumbles in the face of the power of mass media.

Presented in French with English subtitles, the DVD and Blu-ray release of Comment Ca Va? by Olive Films represents the movie’s U.S. debut on disc.
