Chris Sanders, the co-director of How to Train Your Dragon, and Kirk De Micco, the director of Space Chimps, go back in time for DreamWorks Animation’s The Croods.
The comedy adventure film tells the story of the world’s first family as they’re forced to step out from the safety of their cave and travel across a new landscape, discovering a world filled with fantastic creatures.
Nicolas Cage (The Sorcerer’s Apprentice), Emma Stone (The Amazing Spider-Man), Ryan Reynolds (Green Lantern), Catherine Keener (Please Give), Cloris Leachman (TV’s Raising Hope) and Clark Duke (Hot Tub Time Machine) lend their voices to the PG-rated movie, which grossed a tidy $187 million in theaters.
Although critics weren’t enamored with The Croods, with NPR‘s Bob Mondello calling it “pleasant enough,” audiences appreciated it more. Moviegoers gave the film 81% approval, compared to critics’ 69%, according to Rotten Tomatoes.
The DVD and both Blu-ray versions contain these special features:
- “Belt’s Cave Journal,” a journey with Belt and Guy as they rescue a Jackrobat
- “Croods Cuts (Lost Scenes)”
- and “World of DreamWorks Animation,” music videos from DWA films.
The Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D combo packs also have these extras:
- “The Croodaceous Creatures of Croods!” about the movie’s creatures
- “Be an Artist!” teaching viewers how to draw Belt, Macawnivore and Mousephant
- “The Croods Coloring & Storybook Builder App”
- and a downloadable digital copy of the film.
For a limited time, the DVD and Blu-ray/DVD Combo also are available in a Deluxe Edition, which includes a plush toy of Belt.
