The film concerns Adèle Hugo (Adjani), the daughter of famed writer Victor Hugo, whose obsessive unrequited love for a British military officer (Robinson) leads to her downfall. The film follows the infatuated Adèle as she trails Pinson from one end of the earth to the other, descending into madness and living on the fire of her passion.

Based on Adèle Hugo’s diaries, stunningly photographed by the Nestor Almendros (Days of Heaven) and featuring a score by Maurice Jaubert, the film received much critical acclaim when it was released.

For her part, Adjani received an Academy Award nomination, making her the youngest Best Actress nominee ever at the time. The Story of Adele H. also won the National Board of Review Award for Best Foreign Language Film, the French Syndicate of Cinema Critics Award for Best Film, and the Cartagena Film Festival Special Critics Award.

As supplier Twilight Time prints up only 3,000 copies of each title, be prepared to preorder the title from distributor Screen Archives when it prebooks towards the end of March.
