The Last Five Years retraces a tumultuous love affair between Jamie Wellerstein, a talented up and coming novelist (Jordan), and Cathy Hiatt, a struggling actress (Kendrick), through the ups and downs of their turbulent five-year relationship. Told almost entirely through the songs, Cathy’s story begins at the end of their marriage and moves backwards in time to the beginning of their relationship, while Jamie’s starts at the beginning and moves forward to the end of their marriage. They meet in the middle when Jamie proposes.

Written and directed by Richard LaGravenese (Unbroken, P.S. I Love You), the movie received a tiny limited theatrical release in February, 2015. It garnered a middling 59% positive rating based on 69 published reviews according to Rotten Tomatoes.

The DVD and Blu-ray includes a bunch of features, including a sing-a-long version and a conversation with Jason Robert Brown.
